MGM And Internet Gambling Finally Get Together

Could this be the first tentative steps for the large Las Vegas casinos to move into the online gambling world? In a recent meeting of high level executives held in Las Vegas Jim Ryan the Party Gaming CEO presented the benefits of the big land based casinos such as Las Vegas Sands (NYSE:LVS) and MGM (NYSE:MGM) working together with Party Gaming (LON:PRTY).

The session formed part of the legends of gaming event hosted by the Las Vegas-based Union Gaming Group, at the Playboy Club. The main focus was from institutional investors as to how and when the industries move closer together.

As previously written by Calida Gaming the large casino operators simply have to take the online gambling bull by the horns and get onboard.

Also in attendance were MGM Mirage CEO Jim Murren and Palms President George Maloof; slot machine manufacturers, WMS Industries CEO Brian Gamache and incoming International Game Technology Chairman Phil Satre; retired gaming executives, Jack Binion and Chuck Mathewson; and executives of businesses associated with the casino industry, Michael Morton, CEO of the N9NE restaurant and nightclub group and boxing promoter Todd duBoef, president of Top Rank.

Ryans main point was that the technology that has been developed by the online gambling operators is already way ahead of land based casino operators in its ability to track, capture and manage player activity and details. Stating that during 2006 Party Gaming had a turnover of $1.2 billion and profit of $775 million.

MGM and Las Vegas Sands (NYSE:LVS) will be seen as the benchmark within the industry, when either of these two operators make a substantive move into online gambling technology or form a partnership with online gambling companies surely the rest will follow.
